Tropical Hideaway

The new owners of a dated 1980s condo in Maui tasked GCID to transform the oceanfront property into a highly personal and extremely luxurious retreat that honors and celebrates the exotic location. Their desires were very specific: the new experience of the home needed to be elegant, whimsical, and above all, extraordinary— a home unlike any their family and friends had witnessed.

Upon acquiring the property, at first glance, every home in the community appeared identical inside and out. Even as residences were remodeled they still looked eerily similar, and unimpressive. The owners requested a complete remodel with the challenge that all elements related to the building’s exterior remain unchanged, including windows, skylights and doors.

The mandatory objective: to capitalize on the stunning location replete with majestic views of the Maui shoreline.

With the designer’s vision they were able to see beyond the tired wall-to-wall carpeting, drab interiors and chopped up floor plan to realize the potential for a stunning one-of-a-kind work of art that reflects the owner’s colorful, original, innovative style.
